Cardinals & Carlos Martinez: Notches First Save the Season

[ad_1]

Martinez clinched his first save of the season on Wednesday against the national championships, allowing two hits while eliminating four innings in two scoreless innings.

As Bud Norris (the coach's decision) drew closer, Martinez was invited to pitch the last two rounds of Wednesday's 7-6 win. He has awarded a single for every round but has also prevented the Nationals from winning their first stop since 2014. While the Cardinals would likely prefer to use Martinez in a multi-sleeve role, there could be some savings if manager Mike Shildt chooses to join the ninth inning instead of strictly using Norris.
