The Sam Bradford era in Arizona is over.

Bradford, the quarterback who got $ 15 million guaranteed this season, was released by the Cardinals today.

It was always obvious to most people outside the Cardinals' facilities that the signature was a mistake. The Cardinals recruited Josh Rosen in the first round, which clearly indicated that Bradford was only a short-term starter and that many veterans could be cheaper starters. The Cardinals would have been better advised to spend this money to train better offensives around Rosen.

But the mistake is made with now, and Bradford is gone. After the trade expires, Bradford will give waivers, where any team that wants a quarter may claim it. It is possible that a team requiring a quarterback may want Bradford, but it is more likely that he will go through unclaimed waivers. He would then become a free agent.

Cutting Bradford now helps the Cardinals in the complex NFL compensating choice equation, and hurts the Vikings, who will no longer have any advantage in signing Bradford.

Mike Glennon is now the only other quarterback behind Rosen on the Cardinals' depth chart.
