The veteran forward Carmelo Anthony is expected to sign with the Houston Rockets, a person with knowledge of his situation told USA TODAY Sports. The person requested anonymity because he was not allowed to speak publicly until Anthony made his official commitment.

There are still some procedural hurdles before Anthony can sign. The trade that will send Anthony from Oklahoma City to Atlanta has been agreed but not completed. Anthony, 34, is a good friend of Rockets leader Chris Paul, and his interest in Houston is not a surprise. MVP James Harden said over the weekend that Anthony would be a "grand acquisition" for the Rockets, who took the Golden State Warriors to the seventh game of the Western Conference finals in May.

worst season of his career, since his 16.2 points per game marked the first time on average less than 20 points per game. But the future Hall of Famer still has enough to do in the tank to help the Rockets get to the top of the Western Conference next season.
