Many of New York City's iconic restaurants have closed in recent years, and Carnegie Deli has been an acute loss. We know that the 81-year-old brand lives and can be fired. There are currently two outposts: one at Madison Square Garden (on concession, match nights) and one at the Las Vegas Mirage. And from December 1st to 8th, New York City will receive a triumphant return from Carnegie Deli, although it is a temporary ephemeral restaurant. It is timed in conjunction with the second season of the hit series Amazon, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, shot in New York.
The Carnegie Deli pop-up will be located in Nolita, at 201 Lafayette Street, in the former San Remo coffee area. This playful iteration of the charcuterie will take place in 1958 and will carry the slogan "Home of the Maisel", featuring a special "Maisel" sandwich. Amazon writes that the vintage decor will include a jukebox, a photo booth and even a vintage menu.
All food and beverages will be 99 cents or less, including a "Susie" sandwich named after Miriam's main character's agent, a 75-cent "Mish Knish", a 50-percent black and white cookie. cents, a 50-cent cheese cake, and pickles for 50 cents. Drinks include Dr. Brown soda, iced tea and coffee, all for 50 cents. Although the Carnegie Deli pop-up takes reservations in advance for up to 4 on Open Table (which have been booked quickly), the tables will open every hour for guests. In addition, a take-out counter is considered the "fastest takeaway counter you've seen since 1958!"
According to the NY Daily News, all the recipes from the pop-up Carnegie Deli for the wonderful Ms. Maisel will go to a good cause: the Lower East Side Girls Club.
