Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has been cleared for a full contact on Monday and will start week 3 against the Colts of Indianapolis.

Wentz, 25, suffered a torn LCA at week 14 of last season. He escaped the first two weeks of the season despite a solid appearance in practice, the Eagles adopting a long-term conservative vision rather than rushing it.

Nick Foles, who led Philly to a Super Bowl victory in February, will resume his replacement role. The Foles racked up 451 yards and a touchdown against an interception in the 1-1 draw for the Eagles.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he was confident that Wentz was ready to leave.

"Watch him physically move and some of the things he's done, he's ready," said Pederson. "He is ready to take the reins and move on."

Pederson seemed to indicate that the team was still targeting Week 3 for Wentz's return. He stated that the quarter had "understood" and "adopted" the plan, which included limiting it to non-contact situations throughout the training camp and the first two weeks of practice.

"There are no limits", Pederson told reporters. "I'm not going to scare the coach, I'm not going to train the paranoid."

Wentz had 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns against seven interceptions last season. He may have won the NFL MVP trophy before the injury, and the Eagles are in a better position to play another Super Bowl with Wentz.

"It's a guy who will be totally prepared." He arrives early, studying the tape, Pederson said. "It's going to be mentally prepared, now it's just the physical part that takes over."

While the Foles have had a series of victories that led to the Eagles' first Super Bowl title, his regular-season performances call him an average starter. It would not be a surprise if the Eagles were starting to promote trade for the Foles if Wentz performed at a high level.
