Cat owners who feed their pets a vegan diet could be subject to prosecution, warned the RSPCA.
At present, one in six pet food vendors offers vegan or vegetarian meals, while its owners embark on craze for herbal meals.
But the RSPCA said that while dogs could in theory survive on a well-balanced vegetarian diet, cats fed exclusively on vegan foods could become "critically ill," which means that homeowners might be liable to suffer. 39, a fine or even a prison.

Damian Eadie, director of the pet food company, Benevo, insisted that there was no health problem in feeding cats with a plant-based diet , claiming that veterinarians disagree "were suffering from an unshakeable ideology".
