The Cavaliers keep J.R. Smith on Instagram to express his frustration after the NBA told him he could be fined if he did not cover a leg tattoo this season.
The NBA has informed the Cavaliers' Guard, J.R. Smith, that he could be fined every game for not concealing a Supreme brand tattoo on his right leg.
Smith went on Instagram Saturday to express his frustration at the league's warning.
"So, I am informed today that I will be fined every game if I do not cover my" TATTO SUPREME "on my legs during these games !! (sic)", writes Smith . "These people in the league office are something else!"
according to Athletic Shams of Athletic, Smith will have conversations with the league about this decision. An NBA spokesman told Charania said that "the NBA rules prohibit players from displaying commercial logos or corporate badges on their bodies or in their hair."
Smith had his supreme tattoo done in late August. Aged 33, he has modeled the brand on his Instagram account many times over the past year. Last season, he even wore a supreme round in December against the Lakers. However, the run – that Wizards forward Kelly Oubre Jr. also carried off for one game last season – violated the uniform NBA rules set out in Article XXXVII, Section 2, paragraph A of the collective agreement of the league.
The dress code of the NBA players, however, has not stated such limitations for players wearing tattoos. According to the Spotrac database, since at least the 2010-11 season, an NBA player has never been fined or publicly suspended for tattoos.
At the end of August, it was first reported that the NBA was considering removing all color restrictions on shoes for the 2018-19 season, allowing players to wear freely the models and colors they wanted.
