CBD oil has gained ground in the world of health and wellness after making its appearance in big box stores at the end of last year.
Also known as cannabidiol, CBD is one of the 80 active cannabinoids found naturally in cannabis or hemp. This is legal, unlike the THC which is illegal and gives a "high".
As the cannabis industry has developed, more and more studies have shown that the use of CBD oil for medicinal purposes could be considered.
Among its benefits, CBD would help relieve arthritis pain and promote a good night's sleep. A mother, whose daughter was born with cerebral palsy, says that CBD oil has significantly improved her daughter's quality of life and now wants others to do the same.
Ange Hudd, 38, is a mother of two, including nine-year-old Lilly Morgan.
Lilly was born with many different diseases, including tetraplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and reflux.
Since her birth and after learning that she would never work, Lilly has taken various medications, many of which are sedatives.
But in order to seek alternatives to these drugs and to improve the life of his daughter, Angel discovered CBD oil.
She said, "A friend of mine spoke to me about the CBD and looked at it absently. I said, "What are you talking about?" I knew cannabis, but not the CBD issue. I then went home, did a lot of research and watched documentaries online. "
Angel tested different CBD oils before finding Kanaco Oil, containing 1,000 mg of CBD, which worked better with Lilly.
"I give it to him every day," Angel said. "I give her two drops in the morning and about four drops in the evening, every day, and it really relaxes her. His muscle tone is so increased that it really relaxes him – in less than seven minutes.
"His fists are usually very close and that really opened his hands.
"She had a lot of tonic-clonic seizures [a type of epileptic seizure]. She has not had one for a long time.
"At her school and the charity group, she goes every other Saturday and she notices her absence. [which causes you to blank out or stare into space for a few seconds] are about gone. "
Lilly has been taking oral CBD oil for two months now and Angel says it has made a "huge difference".
"There are side effects for many medications that Lily takes, and Lily has more or less side effects. Natural products seem to work better with children like Lilly, "she added.
Towards the end of November, Angel takes Lilly to a neurologist and hopes to discuss the positive impact of CBD oil on her daughter's health.
Meanwhile, Angel has raised social media awareness in the CBD.
After posting online on the CBD, another mother approached Angel saying that she wanted her daughter, autistic and suffering from a benign brain tumor, to try CBD.
"Two months later, this little girl is gathering sentences," said Angel. "She had never said full sentences like that before, she won prizes at school, she just took part in a meeting for the first time.
"Three months ago, she almost did not go through sentences, she was melting, she was wetting the bed. She does not wet the bed anymore.
"I cry whenever his mother sends me a video. I'm just crying with joy. "
Angel says that her biggest dream is that Lilly can give us a computer, similar to a look.
"At 13, I want her to be able to tell me that she loves me, that she knows that I love her and that I try to do everything I can for her. She is my daughter and she deserves the best life, "she added.
"I want her to be more relaxed, I want the crises never to come back, I want her to be more alert, happy, comfortable and painless.
"I'm not naive, I know Lilly will not be a ballerina, but I think she might be able to take two steps as she gets older."
According to Dr. Andrew Thornber, Medical Manager at Now Patient, much research suggests that CBD may be beneficial in fighting some of the major symptoms of cerebral palsy.
He said, "The research on marijuana for medical purposes and cerebral palsy are still limited, but the study results suggest that it offers many benefits, including pain control, reduction spastic movements, reduction of convulsions and more.
"I would always recommend to those who wish to take medications that are not registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council to do so with caution and to almost always have an interview with your pharmacist or your attending physician on your next visit to take their advice. "
Medicinal cannabis products were available on prescription in the UK yesterday.
