A woman from Cedar Rapids who was texting while driving and collided with a car, killing one and injuring others in 2016, was sentenced to two years in prison on Tuesday, 25 September.

Kaitlyn I. Richards, 22, has been convicted of manslaughter and, in addition to her sentence, is fined $ 625, according to court documents.

Prosecutors have dropped a charge of vehicular homicide in exchange for Richards' manslaughter, AP said.

She admitted that she sent SMS on January 24, 2016, before her car re-started a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 80 in Coralville.

The SUV was pushed into a trailer, causing the death of the SUV driver. Patricia Ann Mittauer, 54, of Swisher, has been identified as an SUV driver.
