Celebrities address deadly wildfires during People’s Choice Awards

Some of Hollywood’s biggest names took a moment to address the California wildfires during the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday night.

“We are in a little bit of a state of emergency,” said actress Mila Kunis as she accepted the Comedy Movie of 2018 award for “The Spy Who Dumped Me.”

“You know, I have this opportunity, and I just want to say if you can take a minute to donate to the LAFD Foundation — which is Los Angeles Fire Department — it would be really, really great.”

Several others asked viewers to donate and commended firefighters for their heroic efforts.

“Any contributions — $1, $10, 50 cents — it will be put to good use and it will make a difference,” said actress Melissa McCarthy while accepting the inaugural Icon Award. “There is great power in this room and everyone who’s watching.”

Victoria Beckham, winner of the Fashion Icon Award, said: “It’s amazing to be back here in L.A. receiving this award…Albeit at such a trying time and my heart really does go out to everybody that has been affected by the terrible fires and, can I add, my admiration for the firefighters who are doing such an incredible job.”

The Kardashian family not only addressed the wildfires — which have claimed the lives of at least 29 people — but also the Thousand Oaks shooting that left 12 people dead last week.

“It’s been a really rough week in our home in Calabasas, Hidden Hills and our neighbors in Thousand Oaks and Malibu,” said Kim Kardashian while accepting the Reality Show of 2018 award. “Our hearts are broken from the horrific shootings and those who have lost their lives and homes, as well as the hundreds of thousands of us that have been evacuated from the devastating fires that are currently burning.”

Kardashian is among a number of celebrities who have been affected by the catastrophic wildfires. Others include Martin Sheen, Gerard Butler and Robin Thicke.
