Chad Knaus signs a 2-year extension to remain Jimmie Johnson's team leader | NASCAR

Chad Knaus and Jimmie Johnson will have at least two more years working together.

Knaus told ESPN in an interview Saturday that he has signed a two-year extension to stay with Hendrick Motorsports and will continue to work with Johnson on number 48. Knaus's contract was to end after the season 2018.

The duo worked together for 17 years and Knaus' new contract will take him through the 2020 season.

Even though car # 48 has been very successful with Johnson at the wheel while driving the car. He has won seven NASCAR Cup titles, and the veteran rider has struggled to win in recent times. Johnson and his team are currently in the longest winning streak of his career.

"Obviously, Jimmie and I, even though we are going through a recession, have a lot of fun running together," Knaus told ESPN. "We have a long relationship and enjoy everything 48. … it was pretty easy [to stay]."

Knaus still believes that Johnson, who has not won in 41 races, can return to the top

"In recent years, it may have been more focused on next week, but I would be stupid and liar to not admit the fact that eight championships put Jimmie on a pedestal by himself at Knaus added:

Johnson has already signed with Hendrick until 2020. The main sponsor of the team, Lowe's, also announced that he would leave NASCAR after this date. season.
