LAS VEGAS – Chael Sonnen chooses Khabib Nurmagomedov to defeat Conor McGregor on Saturday to head UFC 229. The events of Thursday's UFC 229 pre-fight press conference have not changed the game.
Sonnen had no problem with Nurmagomedov (26-0 MMA, 10-0 UFC), who left early and took the "moral place", but he also thinks it was a bit useless, as the promotion had planned an hour for with McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC), arrived with 27 minutes late. In Sonnen's mind, however, the unique situation only added to the plot.
Sonnen, former UFC title challenger several times and semi-finalist of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix, is working on the event as an analyst for ESPN. The lack of confrontation between Nurmagomedov and McGregor was the highlight of the press conference, but Sonnen said it had not lost its luster.
"We are too deep now," said Sonnen. "These guys came face-to-face, they saw each other through the windows, they saw each other through televisions, they saw each other at a press conference, and I'm all for the meeting. is what the company brought here for today, but no (it does not detract from the fight.) Actually, we had fun, it was a good day. "
The UFC 229 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena. Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor presents the main pay-per-view card after the preliminaries of FS1 and the UFC Fight Pass.
The fight for the lightweight title is touted as the "biggest match" in the history of the UFC. Sonnen said the current champion would retain his title.
"I think Khabib beats him," said Sonnen. "I have several reasons to believe it, but look, it has to go through a circular saw before you can do it."
