Mr. Aznavour had six children. Complete information about the survivors was not immediately available.

As a child, Mr. Aznavour saw his father take a break while feeding penniless Armenian refugees in his restaurant. As his fame grew, he became an important spokesperson and fundraiser for the Armenian cause. He organized help around the world after the earthquake that killed 45,000 people in Armenia in 1988. And when the country separated from the collapse of the Union Soviet in 1991, it made him an unofficial ambassador. He wore the Diplomatic Corps plaque on his car as proudly as he wore the ribbon of the French Legion of Honor to his lapel.

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement:

"Deeply French, viscerally attached to his Armenian roots, famous throughout the world, Charles Aznavour accompanied the joys and sorrows of three generations. His masterpieces, his stamp, his unique influence will survive him for a long time. "

In 2006, at the age of 82, the Little Charles, as the French called him (he was 5 feet 3 inches), began what some – although not Mr. Aznavour himself – called his farewell tour. After spending several months in Cuba that year, recording an album of his songs with pianist Chucho Valdés, he later moved to Radio City Music Hall in ten American cities. It was just the English part of the tour, he said, followed by England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

He continued playing almost until the end of his life. Stephen Holden of The Times, commented on a concert given in 2009 in downtown New York. He stated that he "displayed the endurance and agility of a 30-year-old rejuvenated man." although he suggested in an email interview with the Times to change his mind.

He also continued to write songs. "My Paris", a musical based on the life of Toulouse-Lautrec for which he wrote the score, was presented at New Haven's Long Wharf Theater in 2016.

In recent years, health problems have inevitably slowed down, but it has shown no signs of stopping. "We are in no hurry," he said in 2006. "We are still young. There are people who are aging and others who are only adding years. I've added years, but I'm not old yet.
