Veteran Chase Utley, second baseman of the Los Angeles Dodgers, six-time Hall of Fame member and potential Hall of Fame member, announced that he would take his retirement at the end of the 2018 season.
at a press conference at the Dodger stadium before Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels.
"It's a tough decision, but it's a decision that suits me," Utley said. "I can enter the last chapter of my baseball career with enthusiasm, enthusiasm, but above all a clear mind."
Utley, 39, plans to play the rest of the season, but he will not return in 2019, the second year of a two million dollar contract over two years. The Dodgers currently occupy first place in the National League of the West
