The Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night with a single from Albert Almora, preserving their slim half-game lead against the Milwaukee Brewers in the Central Division.

Almora's single at the bottom of the 10th inning scored Terrance Gore, giving the Cubs a desperately needed victory.
Jason Heyward hit a two-run homer and scored three points for the Cubs, and Anthony Rizzo had a pair of hits and scored in the win.
Jose Quintana pitched five innings and awarded two earned runs, eliminating four batters and walking.

After the first round of the Pirates, the Cubs quickly took the lead for the first time in the series when Heyward managed a two-point field left to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead.
Rizzo took the third inning to qualify 3-1, then Kyle Schwarber drew a busy base to extend the Chicago advantage to three points.
In the fourth inning, Javier Baez hit a RBI single to score Daniel Murphy, and Heyward took another round with center at center right, scoring Baez and putting the Cubs in the lead 6-1.

The Pirates struck again with two runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth, but Jaime Garcia managed to scramble the starting line to second base to keep the game tied.
The Cubs will finish their series with the Pirates on Thursday at Wrigley Field, and the Brewers will have their last rest day of the regular season.
