BATTLE GROUND, Wash. – (AP) – An outbreak of chicken pox in a Southwestern Washington primary school could prevent dozens of students from staying in class for several weeks.
Battle Ground public school spokeswoman Rita Sanders told The Columbian Friday that five cases of chicken pox had been confirmed at Daybreak Elementary School.

According to the Clark County Public Health Department, students and staff who do not have documented immunity against the virus must stay home for three weeks starting Monday, according to a letter sent to parents Thursday night .
Sanders says the epidemic should drive 38 students out of school.
Students who receive a vaccine or provide proof of immunity may return to school before the end of the three weeks.
