The landmark trial was set to begin in Oregon.
The Trump Administration asked the Supreme Court on Thursday, citing concerns about the case.
"Absent relief from this court, the government will be forced to participate in a 50-day trial that would violate the rule of law. [Administrative Procedure Act] and the separation of powers, "government attorneys wrote to the Supreme Court, asking for a rare" writ of mandamus "to stop the proceedings.
The administration had been successful in bringing about a delay in the field of justice.
The case was introduced by 21 young adults and children, along with James Hansen's climate scientist in 2015. They are claiming that the federal government is in danger.
