In other Gambino news, he replicated his former label, Glassnote Entertainment Group, which released all his music before moving to RCA for "This Is America". You may remember that in July, Glassnote was pursuing Glover's streaming copyright claims, stating that Glover had collected directly from SoundExchange since its licensing agreement with Glassnote had expired at the end of 2017 and that he had not paid the 50% share expected.
Now The Hollywood Reporter reports that Glover's CDJJ Recordings beat Friday, claiming that Glassnote owes it streaming royalties and miscalculated costs in violation of its licensing agreement. According to an audit conducted in 2017, Glassnote should have owed Glover substantial royalties for the period from July 1, 2014 to December 31, 2016. The Glover suit also alleges that its company owns the Childish Gambino masters and only granted them at Glassnote. And he is claiming punitive damages on the basis that Glassnote deliberately and mischievously miscalculated distribution and production royalties, under-reported international revenues, and wrong manufacturing expenses, among others.
