TOTTENVILLE, Staten Island (WABC) –
Police are investigating the death of a woman allegedly burned in Staten Island.
Investigators said the firefighters had been called to a small fire in a wooded area of Bartow Avenue and Eugene Street in Tottenville, after children had discovered the body Sunday afternoon.
The FDNY found the body of a partially dressed woman on fire when arriving near Long Pond Park.
Police said that the woman was partially clothed and that she was probably there for several days.
"It's a very quiet neighborhood," said Ron Ribaudo, a local resident. "It's a dead end street." There's never any cars parked here. </ P> <p> Think, just down the house, there was a murder, it's crazy. is really that, it's a bit sad, you wonder where you live sometimes. "
The inspectors said Monday that they thought they knew the woman's identity. She would have been in her forties and disappeared earlier this month.
His death is considered suspect, but the medical examiner will determine the exact cause.
No arrests were made.
