BEIJING (Reuters) – China will ask more labs to test for African swine fever virus, the country's agriculture ministry said on Friday.
Animal disease control departments located below the provincial level, university laboratories and third-party laboratories will be able to carry out tests on samples of the deadly virus, with the agreement of the provincial authorities, announced the Ministry of Health. Agriculture and Rural Affairs in an opinion on its website.
The notification came after China reported more than 40 cases in less than three months, highlighting the challenge of controlling the spread of highly contagious disease in the world's largest pig herd.
