BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) – Chinese actress Fan Bingbing has been ordered to pay taxes and fines amounting to hundreds of millions of yuan for tax evasion, according to the country's tax authorities, Wednesday .

The State Tax Administration and its Jiangsu Province Tax Department said it opened an investigation into Fan in early June after receiving information from the public accusing it of escaping tax evasion by engaging in contractual fraud.

Tax officials in Jiangsu officially imposed a fine on Fan on September 30th.

Fan, who has received an administrative sanction for tax evasion for the first time and has never been subject to a criminal penalty for tax evasion, will not be prosecuted for criminal liability if it reimburses taxes and fines within a specified period .

The case, however, will be transferred to the police if it does not comply.

The tax authorities said that during their investigation, Fan's agent, surnamed Mou, hindered the process by encouraging employees to deliberately conceal and destroy the accounting records of the companies involved. Suspecting to commit criminal offenses, Mou and other staff members were subjected to mandatory measures on the part of the police investigating.

The state tax administration ordered its Jiangsu Province Tax Department to punish tax officials responsible for tax evasion.
