Cui Tiankai, China's ambassador to the United States, said on Sunday that it was "very confusing" to try to discern who has the ear of President Trump on trade policy, as China-US . relations continue to be tense on the issue.
In an interview with Fox News Sunday, Cui was invited to give his perspective on the Trump administration's commercial approach.
"Are you sure who President Trump is listening to on trade issues, be it moderates like Kudlow and Mnuchin or intransigent ones like Navarro?" Peter Navarro.
Cui replied, "You tell me."
"Honestly, I've talked to ambassadors from other countries in Washington, DC, and that's part of their problem as well," Cui said. "They do not know who the ultimate decision maker is. Of course, the president will probably make the final decision. But who plays what role? Sometimes it can be very confusing.
Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss trade at the Group of 20 summit to be held next month in Buenos Aires as part of what will be the first direct talks between the United States and China since the month August.
Trump announced three weeks ago that it was imposing a new series of duties on Chinese goods worth $ 200 billion, prompting China to react by imposing tariffs on goods. US imports to the tune of $ 60 billion.
