Zhu Congpeng, chief designer of the space lab, said Tiangong-2 had been designed with multiple security control modes to cope with emergencies and ensure it could safely leave the orbit.

"We have also taken more than 300 countermeasures to ensure its safety," said Zhu.

Launched on September 15, 2016, Tiangong-2 has been in orbit for over two years.
