The director of a Chipotle restaurant in St. Paul, Minnesota, is unemployed after a viral video showing employees who refuse to serve a group of African-American men before agreeing to pay for their meal first.
"It sounded really racist – as she said so well," Masud Ali told the StarTribune Minnesota on Friday. "She asked for proof of income as if I was taking out a loan."
Ali, 21, said he and his friends had stopped at the Grand Avenue restaurant to eat a bite on Thursday night, but that service was denied. The group would have been taken for last night's customers who were not able to pay for their food.
In a video posted on Twitter, one of the employees is told young men that they must pay in advance "because you never have money when you enter here ».
"Wow, we never have money?" Repeats the group in disbelief. "So are you going to serve us or nah?"
The workers then served a white client, allowing the man to pay for his meal after the fact. When Ali and his friends question him, the workers start to find all sorts of excuses for refusing to serve them.
"Note how this employee said," We saw you enter twice "and told us later that he had never seen us in his lifetime," Ali wrote on Twitter. "Calling the police on loyal customers is extremely disrespectful and unjustified. This is unacceptable and I do not appreciate that these employees make false accusations. "
Chipotle referred to the incident in a statement Friday, saying the company had conducted a "thorough investigation" and had spoken to restaurant officers, as well as the employees involved.
"Regarding what happened at the St. Paul's restaurant, the manager thought these gentlemen were the same Tuesday night guests who were not able to pay for their meal," says communicated. "Anyway, that's not how we treat our customers and, as a result, the director was fired and the restaurant [staff] has been recycled to make sure something like this does not happen again. "
Ali told StarTribune that he did not like his friends and him to be called thieves. He also asked if retraining employees would make a big difference.
"I'm disappointed with this whole team for not taking over and blaming us for something we did not do," he said.

Notice how they completely ignored our proof of income. @ChipotleTweets I need answers.
We show you a proof of income because we were hungry and had not been served. I wonder if I would be served one day from the beginning. pic.twitter.com/DVAVUIiVUN– Masud Ali ? (@Masudaliii) November 16, 2018

I do not like his laugh as if something was funny. So when a white woman comes in, you change your policy of "showing us the income before you are served" ????? So @ Chipotle Will I sit here and tell me that I can not eat because they think I look like someone who has stolen them before ?? pic.twitter.com/gWOfU1plel
