A Chipotle official was fired this week after a video posted on Twitter showed employees refusing to serve five black men and asking them to prove that they had money to pay for their meals before to place their orders.
The footage, which was retweeted more than 52,000 times, showed that Chipotle employees were about to serve a white woman without asking her to show "proof of income". When the camera zoomed in, an employee said the food would be on. the House.
"That's not how we treat our customers. We are committed to treating everyone equally and with respect, "Chipotle said in a statement. "The manager has been fired and we are re-training all the restaurant staff to make sure it does not happen again.
According to the company, the manager thought that the men were the same customers as those who had previously ordered and could not afford their meals.
"Whatever it is, it's not how we treat our customers," Chipotle said.
The video was filmed by 21-year-old Masud Ali, who went to grab a bite after a "long workout".
"So Chipotle will stay here and tell me that I can not eat because they think I look like someone who stole them before?", Says Masud on Twitter.
