Some of the nation's most prominent new quarterbacks have hit the road in the third week, and although TaggaLua and Joe Burrow have already shone in neutral situations, it will not be the first test under pressure. ), Saturday should offer more clues about signal keepers who have the ability to lead their teams in October and November. Tagovailoa and Alabama head for Oxford, where multiple upheavals took place at the expense of Crimson Tide. Burrow leads LSU to Auburn for an early SEC heavyweight fight; Kyler Murray and Oklahoma face the only Big 12 team that beat the Sooners last year; Dwayne Haskins and Ohio State meet the first of many opponents in their schedule against TCU in Arlington; and JT Daniels and USC are looking to bounce back after a defeat at Stanford against a desperate Texas team.
Our eight college editors and editors choose the 11 most interesting games of Week 3 below, defending their responses in turn.
Season classification
Scooby Axson: 18-6 (75%)
Andy Staples: 17-7 (70.8%)
Laken Litman: 15-9 (62.5%)
Ross Dellenger: 14-10 (58.3%)
Molly Geary: 14-10 (58.3%)
Eric Single: 14-10 (58.3%)
Joan Niesen: 13-11 years old (54.2%)
Max Meyer: 13-11 (54.2%)
Florida State Syracuse (ET, ESPN)
Eric Single chooses Syracuse: Last year, we kept waiting for Florida State to come together, watching them lose the game after the match until it was too late. There is a new coach, a new system and a new QB in Tallahassee last year, but it's hard not to lose the feeling that confusing predictions have not gone away with Jimbo Fisher. A trip to the Carrier Dome and a high-powered attack by Eric Dungey, a threatening terrorist (well, finally), will challenge Willie Taggart's attack to score quickly. You do not pass questions against Samford at a race in seven days on a road ACC.
Oklahoma at Iowa State (Noon ET, ABC)
Molly Geary chooses Oklahoma: The Sooners received a serious blow this week when it was announced that star running back Rodney Anderson would miss the rest of the season, but Kyler Murray and Oklahoma have plenty of offensive weapons to face the Cyclones, who only collected three points in a week 2 loss to Iowa. As the Sooners championship adapts to life without Anderson, look for another big potential match for catcher CeeDee Lamb, who scored 146 yards and a touchdown against UCLA.
Vanderbilt to Notre Dame (2:30 pm ET, NBC)
Laken Litman chooses Notre Dame: After a moving and much needed win over Michigan in the first week, Notre Dame ran out of energy in a tight 24-to-16 victory over Ball State. Questions about the effectiveness of quarterback Brandon Wimbush in terms of how the offensive unfolded resurfaced after his three interceptions, no touchdown and less than seven yards on the ground. Brian Kelly was blamed by telling reporters that they needed to "train better". Wimbush, however, knows that a few more performances will allow him to qualify for the second, Ian Book. Vanderbilt's defense currently ranks 20th in the nation in terms of yards per game.
Boise State at Oklahoma State (15:30 ET, ESPN)
Scooby Axson chooses Boise State: Boise State has outsold their opponents so far, crushing Sun Belt's claimant Troy and the unfortunate UConn. The biggest test of the season comes in the form of Oklahoma State, which leads the country in attack but has not been tested so far. Look for quarterback Broncos Brett Rypien to test the new Cowboys 4-2-5 defense early and often, bringing the Broncos closer to New Year's Cup Six.
LSU at Auburn (3:30 pm ET, CBS)
Ross Dellenger chooses Auburn: Something crazy always happens when LSU and Auburn meet – a touch causing a roar recorded on a seismograph, a quarter making five interceptions in the fourth quarter, a return of 20 points. Auburn is ready to avenge the last of these scenarios, which led to a surprising loss to Baton Rouge after LSU was upset by Troy. The LSU attack still has so many questions, and Auburn's defense is just too good.
Houston Texas Tech (4:15 pm ET, FOX)
Scooby Axson chooses Houston: Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury will be warm after being sent off by Ole Miss in the first week. Houston is winning an impressive victory over Arizona, and the Texas Tech defense looks set to resume its old habits.
Alabama to Ole Miss (7 pm ET, ESPN)
Laken Litman chooses Alabama: Southern Illinois quarterback Sam Straub had 382 passing yards and four touchdowns on 29 assists in 47 against Ole Miss last week. He also launched two interceptions, but that happened after the rebels regained control of the match and ran away with a 76-41 win in the fourth quarter. But if a quarterback of the FCS is able to do it for Miss Ole's defense, imagine what Tua Tagovailoa, of Alabama, has managed 71.4% of her passes and ranks second with 13, 0 yards per attempt (better than West Virginia). Will Grier) could do?
Ohio State vs. TCU (Arlington, Texas, 8 pm ET, ABC)
Joan Niesen chooses Ohio State: TCU will be Buckeyes' first challenge in 2018 (and vice versa), but I have not seen anything so far from the Ohio State either side of the balloon to suggest that It could be eliminated by another team than the Top 10- that horned frogs have not yet proven, although their offense is promising. This game will be a great indicator for Big Ten and Big 12.
USC in Texas (8pm ET, FOX)
Max Meyer chooses Texas: Under Clay Helton's leadership, the USC had a terrible record when it came to an outsider (the Trojans are currently at +3.5). The Trojans allowed 5.88 yards per game in defense, ranking it 95th in the nation, including a total of 6.49 yards per run (123rd). The attack was not so good, averaging 5.71 yards per game in attack (79th). The Longhorn attack has struggled, but faces a Trojan defense that could give up explosive games (102nd in the country after allowing 12 games over 20 yards in its first two games) will help Texas to find revenge after last season's double-overtime loss at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Washington to Utah (10am ET, ESPN)
Max Meyer chooses Washington: Statistically speaking, Utah has one of the country's best defenses, but it seems like a mirage after playing Weber State and Northern Illinois in its first two contests. The Washington offense has actually had Utah's number behind, scoring at least 30 points in four of their last five matches. I trust the veteran duo of quarterback Jake Browning and quarterback Myles Gaskin to do it again, especially since a second loss before the October rounds could harm the chances of the Huskies.
Arizona State at San Diego State (10:30 ET, CBSSN)
Eric Single chooses Arizona State: The Aztecs won at Tempe last year, but they beat Arizona State at the wrong time, winning a win against Michigan State in the second week. They will be without quarterback Christian Chapman, who has injured his knee. -Too-close victory over Sacramento State last weekend. Sun Devils quarterback Manny Wilkins is playing too well at the moment for Herm Edwards' charges to drop a win.
