Looks like Chris Evans – the actor who plays Captain America in Marvel movies – is giving up the role after seven years.

He has starred in 10 movies, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger.

Chris portrayed one of the original cinematic Avengers alongside Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye.

He has now finished shooting Avengers 4, Marvel's 22nd film, and tweeted that playing at Cape Town was "an honor".

Warning: There are some spoilers below for Avengers: Infinity War

The Marvel film universe, or MCU, is a true movie beast since its debut with the first Iron Man movie in 2008.

Captain America: The First Avenger was the fifth movie in the series, released in 2011.

He introduced a brand new audience to Steve Rogers, a lean but honorable little man who, more than anything, wants to be part of the US military to fight the Nazis during the Second World War.

He received an injection of serum that makes him a super soldier: Captain America.

The rest is history (fictional). As a cape, Chris fought the Nazis, the extraterrestrials, the evil robots and even his own best friend.

Legend

Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark / Iron Man

Online, there is a wave of emotion at the end of an era.

Even other superheroes involve it. Here is the actor of Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds.

Others have also shown their love for the man behind the mask.

The apparent retirement of Chris Evans after playing the character is not a surprise.

Previously, he had said about the role: "You want to get off the train before they push you."

And we found that many of the Avengers' main players were out of contract after Avengers 4.

This still untitled movie is a direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, where many characters seemed to die.

It will be next year to find out what happened to the characters in this movie.

Captain America is not the first cartoon character played by Chris Evans.

He was also the human torch in two Fantastic Four films in 2005 and 2007 alongside Jessica Alba.

Evans strongly criticized US President Donald Trump, calling the "puppet" Russian leader Vladimir Putin earlier this year.
