The scene – spoiler warning – comes after Spider-Man defeated Dr. Octopus, the new supervisor, who unleashed the devastating biological weapon of Devil's Breath on an unprepared New York City.
Among those touched by the attack was Aunt May, of Spider-Man, whose life was at stake while the superhero was fighting mentor Otto Octavius to heal him.
The day has passed and now, with a small amount of antidote that would have saved May at the cost of a citywide cure, Spider – Man looked helplessly at the woman who raised her succumbed to her illness.
May told the masked superhero to show his face by saying, "I want to see my nephew." After revealing that she knew her heroic double life "for a while," May told Peter Parker that he was proud of him. and his late Uncle Ben would be too.
The moment pays homage to 1995 The amazing spider-man # 400, written by longtime writer Spider-Man J.M. DeMatteis and designed by Mark Bagley.
In "The Gift," an awkward Aunt May talks with her beloved nephew at the top of the Empire State Building's observation platform, shocking her when she reveals that she has long denied the truth that he was the Spider-Man.
Later, in bed with a fever, May tells Peter it's time to say goodbye. Holding May's hand, Peter's aunt dies quietly, leaving her nephew sobbing as he recites Peter Pan – stories that May read to Peter as a boy.
This cartoon death would later be reversed and the "Aunt May" who bid farewell to Peter before dying was later revealed to be a genetically modified impostor who was part of a global plan set in motion by enemy juror Norman Osborn, aka the green goblin.
The Spider-Man of Marvel is now available to own exclusively on PlayStation 4.
