The first 48-year-old UFC Hall of Fame fight in eight years ended in a brutal defeat in the first round.
And one way or another, he did not concede that he should have stayed in retirement or would not fight again.
Chuck Liddell and UFC Hall of Fame member Tito Ortiz met for the third time at 48 and 43 respectively, but the fight was an imbalance.
Fourteen years after their first fight and 12 years after their second, Ortiz beat his rival for the first time with 36 seconds to go in the first third.
While Ortiz has been beaten four times since 2014 – for three wins – Liddell has been well packed since his retirement in 2010 at the request of his side.
According to many viewers, this should stay that way.
Liddell barely had the ability to defend Ortiz, whose right to the chin was flattening his opponent at the end of the first round.

Liddell was on the back foot throughout the fight, but, as a real fighter, he only felt that he had made a strategic mistake.
"I came back, I'm in great shape, I was ready for this fight," he said.
"I went out and got caught. I made a mistake and that is what it is. I do not think it was my best performance for sure.
"I got in shape, I was ready for this fight. I have no excuses.
"We will have to sit down and think about it. I do not know what I'm going to do. "
