Officials from the King County Sheriff's Office said that a malfunction of the equipment had occurred and that there was nothing suspicious there.
"These audience members were escorted outside the Big Top by Cirque du Soleil employees and offered help.
Jonathan Fay, a member of the audience, said the liquid was drawn from the stage and had returned in several rows.
People on stage started to slide.
Another member of the audience, Chase Costello, shared a video of the oil spilled on stage on Instagram.

The show was canceled about 30 minutes after the show started.
Cirque du Soleil said in a statement that members of the public would be reimbursed.
Friday's show was the first of a two-month run at Marymoor Park in Redmond. It will last until November 4th.
A Cirque du Soleil artist died in March during a Florida performance when his hand escaped two rings and fell 20 feet.
