RENO, Nev. (KOLO) After a letter of discontinuance and disclaimer was issued by the city of Reno, the Lime technology company withdrew the electric scooters. However, there are still many problems and problems with the bikes.
"I am totally blind," says Dora Uchel. "I have a service dog and sometimes I meet them and the dog is confused and he does not know, am I going on the road or at my mother's house, where I'm going because it's blocking sidewalk."
Uchel says motorcycles that block sidewalks are a danger to people with disabilities.
"I have a friend in a wheelchair who crosses her and she can not move, so she's stuck there and has to call for help," she says.
The city plans to turn to scooters and bicycles at the September 26 city council meeting. The city says its goal is to make sure all bikes get to the right place.
"This is part of a public education campaign that Lime is launching and is trying to participate in," says Jon Humbert.
The city says that safety and compliance with ADA standards is a top priority.
In a statement to KOLO 8, Lime said: "Our goal has always been to make travel easier and more accessible, and safety and accessibility for all remain our top priority.
Uchel says that she would like to see the bikes disappear completely.
"It's hard to navigate," she says. "When you put a Limebike out there, it's horrible and so for me, I do not like them, so I'm just saying do not have them."
