ALTOONA, Pennsylvania – The iconic Pittsburgh candy bar returns to Pennsylvania.

Boyer Candy Company in Altoona bought the rights, recipes and equipment for the Clark Bar from an unidentified vendor on Thursday.

The crisp bar of chocolate-coated peanut butter was created in Pittsburgh by an Irish immigrant D.L. Clark in 1917. The bars were individually wrapped to be sent to US troops during the First World War. Necco, or New England Confectionery Co. in Revere, Mass., Has been producing Clark bars since the 1990s.

The fate of the Clark Bar and other nostalgic sweets such as the conversation hearts Necco Wafers and Sweethearts had been put on hold when Necco declared bankruptcy in April.

Anthony Forgione, owner of Boyer, who manufactures the Mallo Cups, estimates that it would take about six months for production to begin.

Forgione refused to reveal the purchase price.
