It's Clemson and all the other members of the CAC.
It was a statement that you could have made at the beginning of week 8. But after the decisive evacuation of number 16 by NC, number 41 of the Tigers, on Saturday, it is a phrase that can now be built with extreme confidence .
NC State was, we think, the biggest threat to Clemson. The Wolfpack was undefeated from the beginning of the match and had recently made a pass to Clemson. Unfortunately for NC State, the past was not indicative of the present.
Quarterback Ryan Finley launched two interceptions and struggled to do everything. Finley's first pick was late in the second quarter and Clemson made it a goal and a 24-0 lead at half-time. The second came in the third quarter as NC State started the second half with the ball and a chance to get closer to two scores with a TD and a two-point conversion.
Clemson extended his lead to 31-0 shortly thereafter and rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence was able to watch much of the fourth quarter from the bench.
Travis Etienne is becoming a serious threat to Heisman

Etienne's statistics on Saturday were not very good. He had only 15 runs for 36 yards and a jack for 24 yards. But he has scored three touchdowns and now has six scores in the last two games. Etienne also combined 12 touchdowns in the first seven games of the season. It's tied for the highest number of touchdowns among Power Five riders and receivers.
It will be almost impossible for Etienne to maintain his current pace of points for the rest of the season. But if he manages to reach at least 20 touchdowns and Clemson continues to win, he is likely to be a finalist in Heisman.
So who is the biggest threat to Clemson?
Now that NC State has been eliminated from the conversation, it's time to figure out who Clemson's biggest challenger is. The title seems to return to Boston College (5-2, 2-1 ACC), which will face the Tigers on November 10 at home. The Eagles have good defense and a good running game – provided that attacking midfielder A.J. Dillon is in good health – but also lost to NC State earlier in the season.
After BC, it's probably a Florida State team that now has two or three players in the ACC after defeating Wake Forest. Yeah, that does not say much. The Tigers have a very visible path to the ACC championship game.
For now, Clemson's opponent seems to be Virginia Tech. Yes, the team that lost to Old Dominion is leading the Coastal ACC at 3-0. Behind the Hokies are Virginia, Miami and Pitt. None of these four teams should scare Clemson fans. Do not take an undefeated season for granted, Clemson fans. But a place in college football matches seems very achievable.
