CLEMSON – The Clemson side team showed many holes to fix, but the Tigers (# 2) had enough offensive firepower to hold South Carolina and Jake Bentley 56-35 Saturday on a cool night and misty at Memorial Stadium.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence had 393 yards and one touchdown and halfback Travis Etienne had 150 yards and two touchdowns, allowing Clemson to beat Bentley's best performances by beating the Gamecocks for a fifth straight year.

Clemson improved to a 12-0 record for the second time in his history and was on track for a fourth-place finish in the playoffs.

"Being 12-0 is really special and winning five times in a row at the national championship is a rare thing," said Clemson coach Dabo Swinney. "It was an incredible offensive performance – one of the best games of my career on the offensive and we left some on the table."

The Tigers will put their spotless record and second place in play on Saturday against Pittsburgh at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship game in Charlotte, Nc.

Clemson and South Carolina totaled 1,344 yards, missing just seven yards from Clemson and N.C. State's all-time school record in a single game in 2012.

Bentley, SC, scored for a career-high 510 yards, the second-ever total against Clemson, and five touchdowns.

"It was pretty much the worst performance we ever had in the final," said Swinney. "They had a good plan. They divided us and we had a lot of busts and unchallenged throws. "

The defeat against South Carolina burned Clemson over and over again, but that was not enough against a very successful Clemson team that raised 744 total yards – the third total in the school's history – of which 351 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

Lawrence, a freshman, has completed 27 of his 36 passes for a 393-yard career high – the highest ever by a Clemson quarterback in 116 all-time games against South Carolina.

"I thought Trevor was amazing," said Swinney. "In this arena, on this stage, he was great."

Etienne's 150 yards have touchdowns of 2 and 7 yards, giving him 19 touchdowns, breaking the school record in one season. He has played in six 100-yard games this season and has pushed his 1,307 rushing yards this season, allowing him to advance six players and finish fourth in the Tigers in one season.

Running back Adam Choice added three short touchdowns for the Tigers, the Tavien Feaster one and even the defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was fun, scoring a goal of a meter.

Sophomore's distant receiver, Tee Higgins, has recorded six receptions for 142 yards and Hunter Renfrow, a graduate catcher, whose medical status was in doubt and was the subject of much speculation last week after having missed the second half of Duke's match with injury, played well. . He participated in five receptions for 80 yards, broadening his school record to 40 consecutive games with at least one catch.

"Renfrow – I mean" wow, "said Swinney. "It's so much fun to watch."

The Tigers made three 95-yard or more runs, a first in the school's history.

The teams combined for 709 yards and seven touchdowns in the first half. South Carolina opened the game by scoring 75 yards in 12 losses for a 7-0 lead – the first time Clemson's defense has surrendered in a first-quarter touchdown this season. The Bentley quarterback limited the practice with a 9-yard touchdown wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
