The Cleveland Browns have experienced this roller coaster season. Their first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers ended in a draw after their former kicker, Zane Gonzalez, missed a 43-yard goal to win the game in overtime. Their 21-18 loss to the New Orleans Saints in the second week included two missed attempts and two more missed points by Gonzalez. The Browns eventually got one in the win column the following week during a clash Thursday against the New York Jets. Baker, their first overall pick in 2018, was forced to come in and finally saved the day. Today was just another adventure.
While the Browns were hoping to score eight points at 1.46, Carlos Hyde's number was called for a 3rd and 4th place run. Hyde seemed to stretch and at least draw, even with the yellow line used as the first marker. The ball was spotted, then measured, and it was determined that Cleveland had passed the first attempt. The Browns would be able to kneel the rest of the clock and win the victory.
The referees have however decided to review their position. Although they had no clear visual evidence of the ball's location when Hyde's elbow had dropped, the referees went out of the exam and determined that they had failed the first run.
The Browns' flight by the referees forced the Cleveland police to issue a joking warrant while she was looking for those responsible for stealing a potential victory.
