National AIDS Awareness Day in Latin American countries is coordinated by the Latin American AIDS Commission. This day is celebrated each year on October 15 to raise awareness of the impact of HIV / AIDS on the Hispanic / Latino community in the United States.
"This event allows us to continue to engage all demographics and groups in the community. We want to continue to redefine the current misconceptions and myths surrounding HIV / AIDS, particularly in Cobb and Douglas counties, "said Karrie Pate, HIV Prevention Lead at CDPH.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 252,400 Hispanics / Latinos in the United States were HIV-positive in 2015.
The CRPD's screening, counseling and outreach efforts include the help of knowledgeable and compassionate counselors who can guide residents through next steps or discuss risk reduction techniques. A free HIV test is also offered from Monday to Friday, during normal business hours.
