SportsPulse: University football insider Paul Myerberg and Dan Wolken discuss what the committee did well and bad in the second game of the playoff season.

Unpredictable events are often the norm during the college football season, especially as the playoff pursuit warms in recent weeks and the stakes are growing.

United States TODAY HUI Sports college football staff – Jace Evans, Paul Myerberg, George Schroeder, Erick Smith and Eddie Timanus – are making bold predictions for the 11th week games.

Assuming quarterback Ian Book is not ready, No. 3 Notre Dame could have problems against Florida State. The Seminoles defense is pretty easy to read: they can not stop the pass but finish the race; their defense against the pass is 121st in the FBS (282.6 yards allowed per game), but a very respectable 17th match against the field (111.1 yards). Brandon Wimbush, the starter of Notre Dame should be unavailable. He lost his job after the third week due to his difficulties throwing in the absence of the same ground attack that the Fighting Irish had used in 2017. Wimbush is currently finishing 55.3% of his goals. his pass this year, with one touchdown and four interceptions – the same number Book has launched 128 more attempts. The Wimbush-led offensive has scored 24, 24 and 22 points this year, with Ball State and Vanderbilt playing the last two games.

All this to say this: It is unlikely that Wimbush will spread throughout the state of Florida, which means that it will be a less performing game that the Seminoles will be able to fly. If this is the case, Willie Taggart's program, which has had a bumpy ride in his first year in Tallahassee, will bring good vibes. This would even give them an outdoor chance to extend their series of bowls. Bigger picture, a defeat of Notre Dame would put the College Football Playoff race into chaos, creating a crazy week and the most controversial debate of the first four.

Tennessee beat Kentucky to win Jeremy Pruitt's second strong first season win. This could be considered a surprise: Tennessee is 4-5 and Kentucky 7-2 after losing to Georgia last week. And while Volunteers have been high and low throughout the year, this seems to be the kind of match where the advantage from the field at the Recipients could make the difference.

George Schroeder

Arkansas first-year coach Chad Morris was disappointing. The post-season plans of the Hogs do not include bowl play (in part because their season does not currently include a SEC win). But at Fayetteville, they will see LSU come out of the Alabama 29-0 race, and they will find a way to give the Tigers a second consecutive loss.

Erick Smith

Rivalry games are a different animal, even if a team is strongly favored. Georgia and Oklahoma should have easy days against Auburn and Oklahoma State, respectively. But this is not always the case, especially with a motivated underdog.

The Tigers have the defense to slow down the Bulldogs' ground game and force quarterback Jake Fromm to beat them. LSU used the same strategy effectively last month. The key will be whether Jarrett Stidham can play enough so that Auburn's offense possesses the ball and gives a pause to his defense.

We have seen the Sooners look dominant in attack all season. There is no reason to expect the Cowboys to slow them down. However, OU's defense is still able to keep his opponent in the game. Texas Tech managed to convince them last week and the combination of quarterback Taylor Cornelius and RB Justice Hill in Oklahoma State is good even to keep things tight.

Do not be surprised if the two games are tight in the fourth quarter and we may see a big surprise.

If a sunflower falls and there is no one around, does it sound?

Now that the basketball season is started, football becomes even more of an afterthought in the sunflower state. Still, there will be some interested spectators when Kansas and K-State meet in Manhattan.

It's a forgotten season where deer and antelope do not play. Although the Jayhawks' 3-6 mark is an improvement over last year, the school will continue to say goodbye to coach David Beaty at the end of the season. His Jayhawks might give him a starting gift, as Bill Snyder's era at the helm of the Wildcats seems to be running out of steam. K-State has won the last nine games of the series, but its end is near. KU will win a win in an unsightly affair that will in no way resemble Big 12 football. But that's good, because – did we mention the hoop season now?
