College Sports: Best poll in Texas (Week 4): Texas wins first place, but two other schools in the region also took first place

After a wild week 4 that was marked by violence in Texas (Texas hosted the TCU while the other UTSA and Texas State public schools clashed), our Best in Texas polls went through many moves. With a stalemate in Power Schools 5 to 3-1, a pair of renowned schools with defeats facing legitimate enemies sitting at 2-2 and North Texas still as strong as the only undefeated team in the # State, there are many different directions the voters could go this week.

(According to the most recently released AP poll, AP voters would have Texas No. 1, Texas Tech No. 2, Texas A & M No. 3, TCU No. 4 and North Texas No. 5).

Our constituents disagreed, ranking Texas A & M and North Texas higher than did the AP voters and putting Texas Tech lower.

In the wake of its big win over TCU (a week after defeating another ranked team, the USC), Texas was a No. 1 among our constituents, appearing to top the votes of 10 of our 12 voters. But North Texas (after a 40-point win) received first place, just like TCU, which, well, _ (ツ) _/ ¯.

In any case, this week has shown both on and off the field that many schools could legitimately claim to be the "best in Texas", and it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks unfold.

Among the main clashes this week include Texas Tech, which hosts West Virginia, Texas A & M, competing with Arkansas in Arlington, Texas, for Manhattan to face Kansas State and Oklahoma, which host Baylor.

1. Texas (3-1)

With its win over TCU, Texas is now 3-1 for the first time since 2012 under Mack Brown's leadership and has headed to Kansas State where the Longhorns have not won since 2002. (Chuck Carlton)

2. Texas A & M (2-2)

Having now finished playing Clemson and Alabama over a period of three weeks, A & M has some winnable matches to start with Arkansas already limousing at 1-3. (Alex Miller)

3. North Texas (4-0)

The UNT will qualify for the opening match of the C-USA against the Louisiana Tech at 4-0 after defeating Liberty and improved his score to 4-0 without benefiting from a lump sum for the first time since 1966. (Brett Vito)

4. TCU (2-2)

Turnovers were expensive at TCU in Austin, Texas having scored 14 points in advance. The Frogs now have to regroup before hosting Iowa State, Texas Tech and Oklahoma in the coming weeks. (Reece Graham)

5. Texas Tech (3-1)

After a victory against 15th place Oklahoma State, Alan Bowman could be the current and future QB. The next Texas Tech test will be a match against a tough West Virginia team. (Selby Lopez)

6. Houston (3-1)

Houston has seized a 671-yard offensive program en route to a 70-14 attack against Texas Southern. Next step is the US Tulsa Enemy Conference on October 4th. (Jose Rodriguez)

7. Baylor (3-1)

Baylor's defense led the Bears to a win over Kansas. Charlie Brewer will have to improve the Bears attack to compete with Oklahoma next week. (Selby Lopez)

8. SMU (1-3)

SMU took advantage of turnarounds and the absence of injured soldiers to steal an overtime win from the Navy in Dallas. The ponies then host the Houston Baptist. (Reece Graham)

9. UTSA (1-3)

The Roadrunners booked their score with a defensive touchdown and safety Saturday, beating Texas State by four points and getting their first win of the season. (Scott Bell)

10. Rice (1-3)

Rice was dominated by Southern Miss on Saturday, and that does not get any easier. Next step: at Wake Forest, a difficult defeat for Notre Dame. (Spenser Davis)

11. Texas State (1-3)

The interceptions and a hasty anemic match plunged the Bobcats into a 25-21 loss to UTSA. Texas State is 2-23 against FBS opponents under coach Everett Withers. (Ben Baby)

12. UTEP (0-4)

UTEP was competitive but the state of New Mexico, without a win, rose to 16, the longest in college football. The next step is a match in the state against the UTSA. (EJ Holland)
