In his second season in the NFL, Kansas Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the first favorite for the league's MVP.
The former Texas Tech champion may have also had one of the most impressive passes of the year in Monday's win over the Denver Broncos.
In the third run with just over three minutes to go and the Chiefs leading 23-20, Mahomes pitched a six-yard left-handed pass at Tyreek Hill for the first try, while Broncos linebacker Von Miller was eliminated.
The play proved crucial as the Chiefs later scored on the training, sealing their victory over the Broncos.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 4-0 start and completed 66.7% of his passes for 896 yards and 13 touchdowns and no interceptions.
"I think it's great to see how he protected football, he has a great team around him," said Texas Tech head coach Kingsbury at the press conference of his team on September 11th. " [Andy] Reid did a great job developing it. "
Mahomes played three seasons at Texas Tech. He then finished his senior season to qualify for the NFL draft, where he was selected 10th overall by the Chiefs.
During his most recent season with the Red Raiders in 2016, Mahomes completed 65.7% of his passes for a total of 5,052 yards in the NCAA and 41 touchdowns.
