BERLIN – The Cologne police on Monday closed part of the West German city 's railway station after a man took a woman hostage in a pharmacy at the same time. inside.
Police officer Christoph Schulte told The Associated Press that the incident appears to have started Monday at 12:45 pm. He added that parts of the train station, one of the largest in the country, were closed, as was the Breslauer Platz square behind the station.
"We have indications that a man is holding a woman, but we have not been able to really get close," Schulte said.
The German railway company Deutsche Bahn tweeted that some of the railway tracks had been temporarily closed and trains were canceled or delayed.
Police on Twitter told people to avoid the station. Local media reported that people had received the order via a speaker to leave the station. Ambulances and heavily armed police lined up behind the station, the daily Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger reported.
