The state of Colorado thought it had beaten No. 23 Utah in no time.
Preston Williams captured a touchdown pass from Hail Mary of Collin Hill to seemingly give the Rams a 30-29 win. After Williams grabbed the ball, the CSU players celebrated as they should.
Then a flag arrived. Was it for an excessive party? It would not matter. With the game, fundamentally, a celebratory penalty is worth it.
It was not for the party. Williams went off the field towards the end zone.
Since Williams was out of bounds running, he was no longer eligible for capture. Since then, he has been penalized for illegally touching. And since there was not much time left when Williams caught the pass, the game was over. And Utah State ran away with a 29-24 victory.
Colorado's almost-victorious training came after a two-minute home-and-away. The Rams scored with 1:36 left to take a 24-23 lead and the state of Utah responded to the 29-24 attack with 43 seconds left. With the help of a personal foul penalty from the state of Utah during CSU's last command, the Rams were lucky enough to win the match if Williams stayed within the limits.
The win keeps the state of Utah (10-1, 7-0) with only one defeat in total and no defeats in Mountain West. The Aggies will face Boise State next week for the winner of the Mountain Mountain Mountain Division.
