An IT problem at Delta Air Lines forced the carrier to maintain domestic flights across the country for more than an hour Tuesday.

Delta said in at 21:28 ET update that the problem had been solved.

"Delta's teams have restored all computer systems after a technological problem has briefly affected some of our systems tonight," Delta's statement said. "All ground stops have been lifted."

Delta added that "its employees are now working diligently to accommodate customers whose travel plans have been affected."

The company's website, registration and mobile application operations should normally be functional, added the airline: "Customers should check flight information on delta.com

The incident delayed flights, but the number of canceled flights, if any, was not immediately determined.

As of 21:40 ET, FlightAware's flight tracking service had canceled only three flights, but had delayed more than 660 flights, or about 20% of the "main" operation.

It was unclear how many of these cancellations were directly related to the problem, although Delta generally has one of the best punctuality rates of any US carriers.

The first complaints about technical problems started surfacing on social media shortly before 8 pm ET.

During the approximately 90 minutes during which the flights took place, Delta had to deal with delayed passenger queries about the problem. In response, Delta confirmed that there were system-wide technical issues with domestic flights on a "ground stop".

International flights have not been affected, Delta said in its initial response.

Prior to the resolution, Delta confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its website.

"Delta's IT teams are working diligently to solve a technology problem that affects some of our systems," the company said. "We have launched a Delta ground stop to restore the systems as quickly as possible, no Delta flights currently in the air have caused any security or disruption problems, and we apologize for this inconvenience."

Dustin Barnes, of The Tennessean, reported from Nashville.
