A woman from Bridgeport, Connecticut, was seriously injured after lighting a stick of dynamite that she said was a candle, the police said.
According to Fox61 in ConnecticutThe family has planned to visit The Home Depot to purchase emergency lighting after a storm that has turned off their home, the police said.
The family is later reminded when they bought their home two years ago, the former owners left what they thought were candles in the basement.
WABC reports that it was actually a quarter of dynamite stick. The victim, a 30-year-old woman, sustained serious hand injuries and may lose some of her fingers.
"They brought them upstairs," said Bridgeport fire chief Richard Thode at WABC. "There were two of them, she turned on one, went to move it and she exploded."
The woman also suffered facial injuries. Her husband and two children aged 2 and 11 were at home, but were not injured, reports WABC.
According to NBC Connecticut, authorities searched the house and found another device that was removed from the house and later exploded. Neighboring houses have also been evacuated as a precaution.
