Consumers of donuts buy their products daily so that the owner can visit a sick woman

Here is something sweet to start your day.

Every morning at 4:30 pm, John Chhan, a small business owner, and his wife, Stella, faithfully opened the doors of the Donut City store in Seal Beach, California for almost 30 years. But when Stella suffered a cerebral aneurysm in September, John was left between keeping his business open and helping his recovering wife.

"She's in a retirement home," Chhan told CNN on Monday. . "My sister-in-law is here to help me."

When loyal store patrons learned of the dire situation in Chhan, the community gathered to eat a lot of donuts.

Recently, customers gathered en masse in the beloved bakery, buying each donut and each cup of coffee until the store was exhausted at 7:30, so that Chhan could go home and be with his wife sick.

Clients spoke with local journalists about Chhan and Stella donuts and the importance of the couple's services to the city.

"I was going there with my mom and dad every morning before school. John was still throwing a few extra holes. He always has a smile on his face, "says Steven O'Fallon.

"It's one of the few things still present. It makes them fresh and brings them just in the morning. It's a real American dream for them, "says Jenee Rogers, a 20-year-old, about the couple who arrived in the United States as a Cambodian refugee in 1979.

The Chhans insisted that no crowdfunding site be built for them. But the community believes that the least they can do is put money into the business.

"I am very grateful," says Chhan.
