A 33-year-old mother of two, who is one of the 221 women directly affected by the CervicalCheck controversy, said she was angry and anxious about the delay in informing her that 39, a check revealed problems with a smear test. suffered in 2010, one year before his diagnosis of stage three cervical cancer.
Carol Murray, of Midleton, Co Cork, was informed this morning by Dr. Gabriel Scally of the conclusions of her inquiry into the controversy.
Sending to RTÉ News, Ms. Murray said she was angry and dismayed that information about her 2010 Pap smear test had not been shared with her. She said that she felt aggrieved.
Ms. Murray was diagnosed with cervical cancer in July 2011 and had to be treated with chemotherapy and radiation because of the advanced nature of her disease.
She said that she believed that she would not have contracted cancer if the problems of her 2010 Pap smear test had been detected and treated at that time.
But, she said, instead of being immediately referred for further tests, she was told that she did not have to come back for six months when she was not there. she underwent another smear test.
Ms. Murray is now free of cancer. She called for those responsible for keeping the smear test audit information of the 221 women involved to be held accountable.
She said women's lives were lost and children were deprived of their mothers. She said those responsible should be held accountable and should be fired without pay.
Ms. Murray stated that she had missed a lot of her life because of her illness and her treatment.
She recounted having gone through menopause at the age of 26 and having had to cope with the fact that she could no longer have children.
She said her confidence in the medical profession had been "hit" and that it would be very difficult to regain that trust.

Ms. Murray stated that she was disgusted by the way in which part of Ms. Scally's report was leaked to the media prior to publication.
She said that she felt that the women at the center of the controversy had been kept in the dark and if they wanted to know something, they had to find it in the media.
