FOXBORO – Uncertainty is a common theme in the first week of the NFL season.
Just ask New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to say Wednesday that the Houston Texans will deploy their versatile safety Tyrann Mathieu in the opening game of the season at Gillette Stadium:
"We'll see how Texans use it. I do not know. He could only do one thing for them, or he could do a lot for them. I do not know."
Or the Patriots receiver, Chris Hogan, who hinted that he had to rely on the old gang to capture Houston's trends:
"We can watch the whole movie, but in the end, if we go out, we could see something completely different. So I think it's like playing in week 1. You never know, and you have to adjust to the volley. "
Phillip Dorsett, however, adopts a different mentality. After all, the Patriots' fast patrolman played the Texans five times during his brief career in the NFL – more than any other team – thanks to his two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts in South AFC.
Dorsett had no problem revealing his Houston high school screening report.
"Really physical," Dorsett said Wednesday. "They play a lot of Cover 1, so we know what we're up against. (The Patriots) practiced them (last year) in West Virginia, and I played them every year at Indy, I played them twice a year.
"So basically, they have very good guys. A lot of speed, they are really physical. I mean, they have a lot of talent, so it's a challenge.
Houston's high school is led by two long athletic corners: Johnathan Joseph (5-foot-11 and 185-pound) and Kevin Johnson (6-foot, 185-pound), both on the team since Dorsett entered the league in 2015 Mathieu is a newcomer, but security Kareem Jackson has been a mainstay in the Texans' defensive field since 2010.
Dorsett hopes his familiarity with the group will give him a head start on Sunday as he tries to make his mark in a wide body of receivers.
"Playing the Texans is a big challenge for us," said Dorsett. "Their defense is incredible. They have a lot of game leaders in attack and defense. "
