Any idea of bringing in Earl Thomas, or someone like him, is now over for the Kansas City Chiefs after suffering an end-of-season injury.
In recent weeks, the question about the safety of the Pro Bowl, Earl Thomas, was about or he would play for the long run. After Sunday's action, Thomas's question concerns more when after having a broken leg Sunday.
Thomas was removed from the field in the fourth quarter of Sunday afternoon's game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals. The official word was that Thomas had fallen with a "left left leg fractured" and that security should be placed on the injured reserve. This is a horrible turn for all involved, since Thomas wanted an exchange away from Seattle or an extension of the team. Anyway, all of Thomas's plans are now on hold.
Thomas expressed his frustration with his current contract and his wishes for a new long-term contract. Seattle did not give in to Thomas's demands for more security, and Thomas missed several practices between games to make his wishes known.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been mentioned as potential players in all dealings with Thomas, who has been in the corner for months since Seattle. Seattle's problem is that they have kept their assets at the highest possible price, requiring more than a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. More recently, the advertised price was two round-two picks. for the safety of aging, a price that teams have obviously mocked.

Now all the teams involved have a problem. The Seattle general manager, John Schneider, has now lost all value in an asset that will not be at all next season. Even if he had bitten the ball and taken a second lap of choice, it was better than waiting for such a moment. Thomas was already a cloakroom cancer and a source of distraction for a young team that everyone knew was necessary to go forward.
On the other side of the room, Thomas did not care about this picture. He became the first demanding player who was literally caught in the act taking his finger on the touchline to get to the locker room when he was out of bounds. Now, his age will be highlighted, along with the fact that he has suffered two end-of-season injuries in the last three years. Despite the talent or history, will an NFL team be willing to give it long-term agreement at this stage? (The answer is no.)
As for the chiefs, they even lose all this business. If their wishes were to wait for the Seahawks and hoped to get Thomas cheaper over time, this opportunity is now over. With the loss of any transaction with Thomas, any desire to also improve your high school in such a meaningful way goes hand in hand.
Let's be clear. There is not a single player available on the open market or on a trading block that can make a fraction of the impact that Earl Thomas could have had with the Chiefs. This does not mean that it was worth the asking price. It's just a recognition that if the Chiefs were hoping eventually to solve their problems in high school with an All Pro, these days are now over. In the meantime, even the other security and cornerback options have been taken into account, which means that the shelves are relatively bare at this time of the year.
With only one injury report, one player and two teams are now in a very disappointing position. If the Seahawks had only agreed to take a lower price, they would have an asset for themselves. If the leaders had paid the bagpiper, maybe Thomas would not have hurt himself and would rather be a healthy addition to a wounded secondary. And for Thomas, if he had at least played the role of good citizen, it would be a little better as a long-term investment.
Instead, with one piece, many people's dreams collapsed.
