Senator Lindsey Graham (CS) has already promised that there would be "a hell of hell to pay" if President Donald Trump had ever dismissed Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Yet when Sessions got the green light on Wednesday – his letter saying he had resigned at the request of the president – Graham sent a different message.
"I look forward to working with President Trump to find a trustworthy successor so that we can start a new chapter in the Ministry of Justice and deal with both the opportunities and the challenges our country faces, "he said online.
Graham also praised Sessions, saying that he had "served our country well and honorably" and had "devoted his entire life to conservatism and respect for the rule of law".
It is far from Graham's wish to defend his former colleague from Trump's Senate:
Graham started changing music in August.
"The president is entitled to a public prosecutor he trusts," he said. "And I think it will come a moment, sooner than later, when it will be time to have a new face and a new voice at the Department of Justice."
There have been rumors that Graham was being considered for the position of Attorney General. Last month, he said Trump jokingly asked him if he wanted to. Graham told CNN that he had rejected the opening.
"I will not give up anything for nothing," Graham told the president.
