According to the police, two footballers from Florida International University were shot and wounded during a shooting in Opa-locka.

The men were visiting a house around 2:40 pm in the 2400 block of NW 140th Street when a car passed and someone started shooting at them, police said.

Opa-locka police chief confirmed that player Anthony Jones and offensive lineman Mershawn Miller had been injured.

Jones was injured in the face and back and was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Miller was shot in the arm and is in a stable state.

Their wounds are safe for life, police say.

Officials are looking for a dark gray Nissan Sentra 2015 without tinted windows. A description of the suspect and a reason were not immediately available.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the students and their families," said the FIU officials in a statement to the university community.
