Cristiano Ronaldo sued by the accuser for alleged sexual assault in 2009

On Saturday, the German newspaper Der Spiegel published a report describing the allegations of an American, Kathryn Mayorga, who claims that footballer Cristiano Ronaldo sexually assaulted her in 2009 and filed a civil complaint against the footballer.

In 2017, Der Spiegel acquired a copy of an agreement between Mayorga's camp and Cristiano Ronaldo's camp a few months after the alleged incident. Mayorga would have received $ 375,000 and signed a confidentiality agreement.

In the story published by Der Spiegel in 2017, Mayorga – identified at the time by the pseudonym "Susan K." – declined to comment and the Ronaldo camp denied this story, calling it "journalistic fiction".

Mayorga has now decided to come forward and make the allegations public.

Detailing his decision to run now, Der Spiegel wrote:

[Mayorga’s new attorney] believes that the non-disclosure agreement is not legally binding and he filed a civil complaint against Ronaldo on behalf of Kathryn Mayorga. This complaint is supported by a 27-page document that could have serious consequences for the football star. The document contains a version of how Ronaldo lived that night, including the following quote: "She said no and stopped several times."

Ronaldo declined to comment after allegations surfaced in 2018.
